The Regional Cholera Platforms in Africa bring together multi-sectoral partners from different organizations involved in cholera prevention, preparedness, or response in the region.

Where we work?

We work in more than 45 countries across the two regions of Western & Central Africa (24 countries), and Eastern & Southern Africa (21 countries)

What we do?

The Regional Cholera Platforms aim to improve cholera control and prevention across Africa through operationalization of an integrated strategy towards elimination.

Nigeria - High priority area / hotspot

SUMMARY
152 LGAs are considered high risk area for cholera, it represents 20% of the 774 LGAs in the country. 71 are type 1 and 81 type 2.
These areas are mainly in the northern states of the country. They are on the border of Niger and its high-risk areas, and border to the Lake Chad region and east of the country. Acess to the  Nigeria hotspots location by state (21 maps)

Migrant fishermen
Nomadic communities around the shores of Lake Chad and along borders with Niger, Chad and Cameroon
Traders and bus drivers on the coastal road Accra–Lagos

Practices

Funeral rituals, patients care and home visits (northern states) ;
Formal and informal trade between main cities in Niger (Maradi, Zinder), in Nigeria (Katsina, Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi) and along the shores of Lake Chad (Nguigmi, Maidugiri, Baga) ;
Cross-border markets along borders with Niger and Cameroon ;
Informal trade, migrant fishermen and nomadic communities around the shores of Lake Chad and along borders with Niger, Chad and Cameroon;
